Coding is the computer language used to develop apps, websites, and software. Coding uses algorithms - a set of precise steps that help solve a problem. Why is coding an important skill to learn?
In our Tech Club, students will use https://code.org/ to learn to code. We will begin with an unplugged activity, using graph paper to create and decode algorithms and then move on to coding on the computer.
Students have a laminated card with our 6 letter section code for logging into the site. We are using the CS Fundamentals: Express Course in Tech Club. This course is geared for grades 3-12 and has 46 lessons. Your child is not expected to complete all 46 lessons in Tech Club. Students who complete the first 10 lessons before our next meeting will earn their "coding star" point. But, if students are interested and motivated, the lessons are self-paced and they can advance on to higher levels on their own, if desired. We will visit coding more at our next meeting when we introduce robots.
For our robotics meeting, we will be using Makey Makey Invention Kits. If you know someone who would like to help us get our Donors Choose project funded for 12 Makey Makey Kits, please share this link with them - Donor's Choose Project. Thank you!
